Truck Tracker Fleet Maintenance Software Tech Support FAQ

How do I reinstall Truck Tracker software?

If you plan to restore existing data after reinstall, make sure you have the most recent database backup file. To reinstall you need to have the full installation file either on CD or downloaded from the Internet. If you do not have the full install, contact FleetSoft technical support for additional help. To reinstall on the same machine, make sure you remove the old installation first. If you want to reinstall the SQL Server database, make sure to uninstall the TRUCKTRACKER instance first.

Once you have the software installed, you can share the Truck Tracker program files folder and allow network clients to run the program without installing on their machines.

How do I move Truck Tracker software from one computer to another?

First, make a backup file of your existing database by logging into the software and selecting File...Backup. If you cannot log into the software, check your backup file directory for the latest backup file. The default backup file directory is located on the machine where the SQL Server is installed (local or network) at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\". Copy the most recent database backup file to the new machine.

Second, reinstall the software on the new machine and activate it with your valid activation code. If you do not have a valid activation code, contact FleetSoft to receive one. Login with default user name "Manager" and password "pass". Select File...Restore, select "Restore from Alternate Location" and choose your most recent backup file. If you get an error message while restoring the database, you need to update the file permissions so that SQL Server has access to it. The easiest way is to add full permissions to the "Everyone" user.

Third, login with your existing user name and password. If you have a version mismatch error, run the same installation program again and choose the "Repair" option. This will upgrade the database to the latest version. If you still have a version mismatch, you need to upgrade the software installed on your new machine.

Finally, make sure to uninstall the Truck Tracker software from the old machine. If the old machine was also the server, make sure to uninstall the TRUCKTRACKER SQL Server 2005 instance as well to avoid confusion in the future.

How do I create a report in Excel format?

The easiest way to get Truck Tracker data into Excel is to export from Truck Tracker into a .CSV file and then import it into Excel. If you have Excel installed to handle .CSV files, the files will automatically open in Excel. To export, select File->Export and choose the type of data to export. Enter a file name with ".csv" at the end and click Save. Another way to export data to a .CSV file is to right-click the mouse on any list and choose "Output to CSV".

If you are an advanced Excel user, you can use the read-only SQL Server connection to query and import data directly from SQL Server. See the Truck Tracker user manual for more details.

How do I e-mail PDF reports?

In the report previewer, select File->Save As. Next choose PDF file, select the location and enter a name. Attach the PDF file you created in your e-mail.

How do I configure bar code printing?

First, setup your supported Zebra bar code printer hardware. If you have a serial cable for your printer, you can skip to the next paragraph. If you only have a USB cable for the Zebra label printer, you need to go to zebra.com and download the latest drivers package for your model. Once the drivers are installed you need to map the USB label printer to an unused COM port in the driver settings configuration. Save the settings and restart your printer (and maybe your computer too).

Next log into Truck Tracker software and select File->Settings->Parts Inventory. Press the "Configure Bar code Printer" button. Choose the COM port you are using for the label printer and press the "Initialize Bar code Printer" button. Once the printer is initialized you can start printing Truck Tracker bar codes from within the software.

How do I configure bar code scanning?

Any bar code scanner will work with Truck Tracker software as long as it can be programmed with a unique leading character and has a trailing carriage return character after each scan. The unique leading character must match what you selected in the Parts Inventory settings.
